The primary goal of Personal Data Protection Law is to establish a comprehensive framework for the Protection and Processing of Personal Data, as defined below:

“The Act provides for the processing of digital Personal Data in a manner that recognizes both the rights of the individuals to protect their Personal Data and the need to process such Personal Data for lawful purposes and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto”.

Applicable to the processing of Personal Data in India, encompassing both online and digitized offline data, the legislation extends its scope to the processing of such data outside India, particularly concerning the offering of goods or services in India.

Furthermore, the legislation serves as the basis for other laws, including the Digital India Act and industry-specific regulations addressing privacy and data protection. These legal measures aim to support India's progress in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, all while ensuring the safeguarding of Personal Data. Additionally, the legislation may facilitate collaboration between Indian businesses and international counterparts through reciprocal arrangements, promoting collaboration while prioritizing the protection of Personal Data.
